Overview The Department of Defence has issued a Request for Information (RFI) in relation to the establishment of an Australian-based Load, Assemble and Pack (LAP) capability for 5-inch High Explosive (HE) Naval Ammunition. Respondents are invited to provide information on the viability, cost, schedule and commercial approaches associated with establishing this capability. About The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has a requirement for a 5-inch (127mm) HE Munition (the Munition) to equip ANZAC Class Frigates, Hobart Class Destroyers and future Hunter Class Frigates. The selected Munition will be integrated into and fired from Mk 45 Mod 2 (5"/54) and Mod 4 (5"/62) guns. Purpose The purpose of this RFI activity is to seek information from industry regarding the viability, cost, schedule and commercial approaches associated with establishing an Australian-based LAP capability for 5-inch HE Naval ammunition. Information provided in response to this RFI will assist Defence in assessing capability options and informing future Government decisions. There is no obligation to respond to this RFI. However, Defence considers the information sought through this process to be important in supporting planning activities and informing future decision-making associated with the 5-inch LAP Capability. Defence welcomes input from organisations with relevant experience, capacity and capability to ensure these considerations are informed by the broadest possible range of industry perspectives.
