Sentinel Monitoring Program within Hornsby Local Government Area

Overview Hornsby Shire Council is inviting quotations from suitably qualified and experienced contractors for field monitoring of water quality, macroinvertebrate and diatom communities across 18 waterways in the Hornsby Local Government Area. Purpose Hornsby Shire's waterways are vital to the environment, lifestyle, and wellbeing of the community. Council has been proactively monitoring close to 50 sites across the shire since the late 1990s. Council is now seeking external assistance to support field collection as part of its Sentinel program. Objectives The Sentinel program has been designed to: Assess the health of freshwater ecosystems over time Provide an early warning system for emerging environmental issues Inform future land use planning and catchment management decisions, through protection, remediation or rehabilitation, compliance and/or education programs Communicate information on waterway health to the community of Hornsby Shire Council and beyond Scope Field monitoring of water quality, macroinvertebrate and diatom communities for 18 waterways in the Hornsby Local Government Area Contractor Requirements Suitably qualified and experienced in field monitoring of water quality, macroinvertebrate and diatom communities
