About this tender
Overview Rio Tinto Limited is seeking expressions of interest from contractors to provide waste services for the Kangwinan Project. About The Kangwinan Project is located in the vicinity of Norman Creek, Cape York Peninsula, approximately 60 km south of Weipa. A bauxite processing plant will be constructed on the southern side of Norman Creek and then transported approximately 15 km south-east via overland conveyor to the existing Amrun stockyard. Key scoping items for the Project include a new 19Mtpa crushing and beneficiation plant, a camp expansion, new overland conveyor, water supply, wharf and stockyard expansion, together with significant water infrastructure and earthworks scope. The Project will implement a centralised waste management program to manage waste streams generated throughout the construction phase. It is envisaged that there will be up to eight centralised waste collection areas, located both north and south of the Embley River. Other work package providers will be responsible for segregating waste at source and transporting segregated waste streams to centralised project waste management facilities, where the Waste Services Contractor will assume responsibility for acceptance, processing, storage, recycling, tracking, transport and final disposal. Scope The scope includes: Establishing, operating and maintaining central waste management facilities, including waste segregation and stockpile areas, skip bins, recycling infrastructure, hazardous waste storage areas, and sewage and liquid waste management Providing and operating waste tracking systems and associated environmental controls Providing resources including waste collection and transport equipment, compaction equipment, cranes and lifting equipment, excavators, dozers, water carts, woodchippers, concrete crushing equipment, spill response equipment, and firefighting equipment Processing, storing, recycling, tracking, transporting and disposing of forecast waste volumes over the construction period, including approximately 2,500 t of general waste, 1,400 t of mixed steel, 990 t of concrete, 830 t of timber, 6,000 t of spent abrasive blasting media, 168 t of mixed metals, 250,000 L of waste oil, 95,000 L of oily water, and approximately 34.9 million litres of sewage requiring treatment and disposal, in addition to a range of regulated and hazardous waste streams Maintaining waste manifests and tracking records, and preparing statutory waste transport documentation Monitoring landfill and recycling volumes and providing regular reporting to the Project detailing waste generation Providing all management, supervision, labour, tools, consumables and operating supplies, plant and equipment, materials, incidentals, specified equipment and furnishings, and performing all necessary operations required for the scope of works Contractor Requirements Ability to complete the whole scope of works Compliance with all applicable Rio Tinto Standards, Australian / local regulations, statutory requirements, and Australian codes and standards as specified in the detailed scope of work provided to bid participants Local and Indigenous businesses are encouraged to participate.
