Safer Local Roads & Streets Program - Various Projects

Overview South Gippsland Shire Council is seeking a contractor to deliver the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, a suite of civil construction projects across multiple township and rural locations within the municipality. About South Gippsland Shire Council is committed to delivering a safer, more accessible, and resilient local road network that supports the needs of its diverse and growing community. The municipality encompasses a mix of rural townships, regional centres, and popular tourist destinations, resulting in varied traffic conditions and increasing demands on local infrastructure. In response to these challenges, Council is progressing a suite of projects under the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, aimed at addressing known safety risks and improving outcomes for all road users. The program focuses on the strategic installation and upgrade of traffic management devices and supporting infrastructure across the local road network, including measures designed to reduce vehicle speeds, improve driver awareness, improve pedestrian safety and enhance the overall functionality of road environments in both high-activity and residential areas. Works involve speed management treatments, intersection improvements and other engineered safety solutions aligned with current standards and best practice. A key component of the program is the introduction of speed management and improved pedestrian crossing facilities. These works are intended to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and connectivity, particularly in areas with higher foot traffic such as town centres, school precincts, and community hubs. By formalising crossing points and incorporating features such as refuge islands, signage, and visibility enhancements, the projects aim to reduce conflict between vehicles and pedestrians while supporting active transport. Collectively, these initiatives contribute to Council's broader road safety objectives, including reducing the incidence and severity of crashes, promoting safer travel behaviours, and creating more inclusive and user-friendly streets. The Safe Local Roads and Streets Program represents an important investment in the long-term safety and liveability of South Gippsland's communities. Scope This contract consists primarily of civil construction works to deliver targeted and area wide traffic management infrastructure under the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
