Biogas research to assist industry and policy decision-makers

Overview The Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (NZ) requires the development of technical, commercial and environmental resources that address key information gaps currently limiting investment in organic waste-to-energy projects. Purpose By addressing key information gaps and market uncertainties, this initiative will support project developers, waste operators, councils and investors to better assess the feasibility of anaerobic digestion (AD) projects in New Zealand. This will reduce early-stage project risk and enable more informed investment decisions in renewable energy infrastructure. Objectives The research outputs will provide practical, evidence-based guidance for project developers, councils, investors and other stakeholders considering AD facilities in New Zealand, while also drawing on relevant international best practice. Scope The scope includes: Development of technical resources addressing information gaps limiting investment in organic waste-to-energy projects Development of commercial resources addressing information gaps limiting investment in organic waste-to-energy projects Development of environmental resources addressing information gaps limiting investment in organic waste-to-energy projects Production of practical, evidence-based guidance for project developers, councils, investors and other stakeholders considering AD facilities in New Zealand Incorporation of relevant international best practice into the research outputs
