The time taken for each of the Manapouri units to reach braking speed has gradually increased over the past twenty years. To ensure each unit can reliably stop in the allotted time, mechanical works to address facing plate galling, and friction loading on the wicket gates must be completed. To complete these works, the unit must be disassembled, providing an appropriate opportunity to complete a thorough inspection and repair (if needed) of the generator equipment. The purpose of the project, and all works completed under the project, is to return Manapouri Unit 2 and Unit 6 back into service with a minimum 40-year performance life. The Manapouri generators are closed circuit air cooled with six water-cooled heat exchangers located within the stator enclosure. As these heat exchangers are overrated for the heat load, the flow through these coolers is throttled back. In addition to throttling back the coolers, the unit is fitted with six heaters to maintain a constant stator temperature when the unit is not running. The stator windings are a bar type wave winding featuring an epoxy mica thermosetting insulation system. These are assembled in the 360 open stator slots in the core with a ripple spring and fibre glass wedging system securing the windings in the slots. Partial discharge levels are measured via capacitive couplers connected to the high voltage end of the terminal windings on all three phases for each generator.
A strong tender response is clear, compliant, and backed by evidence. These steps apply to most Australian and New Zealand public tenders.
Open the official listing and download the full tender pack. Note the response schedules, evaluation criteria, mandatory conditions, and the exact closing time and lodgement method.
Check licences, insurances, certifications, and any conformance requirements before you commit. A quick bid or no-bid decision saves days of wasted effort on a tender you cannot win.
Respond to each evaluation criterion directly and back your claims with concrete examples, referees, and past performance. Address the buyer’s stated need, not a generic capability statement.
Submit through the source portal well before the deadline. Late or incorrectly lodged bids are almost always rejected, so leave time for uploads, portal errors, and last-minute questions.
