Overview Rio Tinto Limited is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the design and supply of eight bore water cooling packages for the Kangwinan Project. About The Kangwinan Project is located in the vicinity of Norman Creek, Cape York Peninsula, approximately 60 km south of Weipa. A bauxite processing plant will be constructed on the southern side of Norman Creek and then transported approximately 15 km south-east via overland conveyor to the existing Amrun stockyard. Key scoping items for the Project include a new 19Mtpa crushing and beneficiation plant, a camp expansion, new overland conveyor, water supply, wharf and stockyard expansion, together with significant water infrastructure and earthworks scope. Scope The scope includes: Design and supply of eight bore water cooling packages, to be installed by others at remote, mine site, artesian bore pads Connection of each water cooling package to the discharge piping of a single artesian bore, with the cooling package cooling the bore discharge water and allowing the bore pump to act as the primary fluid transfer pump for the process Cooling of a bore water flow of up to 160 litres per second from an inlet temperature of 80 degrees Celsius to an outlet temperature of 40 degrees Celsius Provision of all equipment, piping and supports, electrical components, cabling and cable supports, and control system programming required for the package to operate independently of the site control system Provision of connection points for hot side water inlet, cold side water outlet, communications cable and power cable, with all other required equipment supplied as part of the package Where the cooling system design could result in a risk of legionella or other pathogen growth, inclusion of an appropriate chemical dosing facility to control pathogens The most economic cooling system is expected to be based on evaporative cooling, however suppliers are encouraged to submit their interest if they can recommend hybrid or other alternative systems. Contractor Requirements Materials used for the package must take into account the inlet temperature, the remote location, high reliability requirements, and the salt content of the artesian water
