About this tender
Overview The District Council of Yankalilla invites tenders from suitably qualified and experienced contractors for the upgrade of Blacker Road Bridge (Bridge No. 35) on Blacker Road, Torrens Vale, where the road crosses the Yankalilla River. About Blacker Road is an unsealed rural road that provides the only vehicle access to rural properties and is an important transport link for local residents, agricultural operations, service providers and emergency services. The existing single-span timber bridge, supported on stone abutments, has reached the end of its service life and requires upgrading to ensure safe and reliable access for the community. Objectives The upgrade will improve safety, increase structural capacity, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements and provide a durable long-term asset for the community. The design maintains the existing road alignment and river hydraulic conditions while incorporating current engineering standards and environmental considerations, including the protection of a significant adjacent tree and the surrounding Yankalilla River corridor. Scope The scope includes: Demolition and removal of the existing timber bridge Construction of a new single-span reinforced concrete bridge, designed to safely accommodate unrestricted heavy vehicle loads, including agricultural freight vehicles Construction of reinforced concrete abutments on bored pile foundations Approach roadworks Installation of bridge barriers Installation of warning signage Scour protection works All associated ancillary works Contractor Requirements Suitably qualified and experienced in bridge construction works Capable of delivering the works efficiently while maintaining access for affected landowners, emergency services and other road users throughout construction
