About this tender
Overview The City of Bunbury's Bunbury Regional Art Gallery (BRAG), together with curator Candice Nannup, is inviting Aboriginal artists to submit expressions of interest to share their stories, voices and creative practices as part of the 2027 Noongar Country exhibition. About The exhibition is about healing koort (heart) and boodja (Country). It provides a space for Aboriginal communities to come together, share experiences, honour culture and tell the stories that matter to their communities. Bunbury Regional Art Gallery acknowledges the Wardandi Noongar people as the traditional custodians of the land on which it is situated, and pays respect to Elders past and present. Purpose At the heart of the exhibition is truth-telling. The exhibition seeks to give artists a safe space to share stories that question what they have been taught, challenge the systems around them, and encourage audiences to see history and the present from different perspectives, including truths that have been silenced, overlooked or misunderstood. Scope Artworks may explore the following themes: Truth-telling and shared histories Noongar culture, identity and connection to Country Healing of people, communities and Country The impacts and ongoing legacy of colonisation Resilience, survival and strength Identity, belonging and displacement Connection to boodja and cultural knowledge Environmental and social justice Challenging dominant narratives Stories that have been silenced or overlooked Personal and collective healing Hope, change and imagining a different future Artworks may highlight unanswered questions, share knowledge, honour Elders and Ancestors, celebrate strength, or tell a story that needs to be heard. Eligibility Open to Aboriginal artists living on Noongar Boodja Artists working in any artistic practice are welcome, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, textiles, weaving, installation, digital, contemporary and traditional practices All mediums and levels of skill are encouraged Contract Terms and Conditions Important dates: Expressions of Interest close Sunday, 20 December 2026 Successful artworks must be delivered between 15 and 26 February 2027 The Noongar Country 2027 exhibition opens Saturday 13 March 2027 and closes Sunday 18 July 2027 Artwork pick up occurs from 21 to 28 July 2027
