Overview Transport for NSW is seeking a contractor to undertake the repainting of the B6008 bridge over Whelans Swamp, including the removal of lead contaminated paint and the application of a new paint system to the girders and bearings of the bridge. Scope This project includes the removal of the lead contaminated paint from the bridge over Whelans Swamp and the application of a new paint system to the girders and bearings of the bridge. The scope of work generally comprises the following but is not limited to: Establishing limit of works delineation Establishment and maintenance of environmental controls, including all soil, water and air monitoring as outlined in the minor works review of environmental factors (MWREF), G36, G38 and associated TfNSW and SafeWork specifications Establishment of site compounds required by the contractor for the extent of the works, including provisions for all amenities (including power and water), establishment of a 1.8m high fence or similar around the perimeter of the compound sites, provisions of showers, laundry, and storage (both solid and liquid) for both contaminated and non-contaminated materials, and a desk and working space for the TfNSW surveillance officer Traffic control Installation of scaffolding capable of withstanding a 1-in-50 year flood event, applicable to both suspended scaffolding from the bridge and scaffolding built up from the ground, designed by a professional engineer in accordance with section 7 of ATS5453 Repainting of Steel Bridges Installation of additional lateral bracing for the outer girders to ensure adequate lateral stability, with efforts made to minimise bracing coming into contact with the bridge girders Installation of scaffolding weight that avoids unnecessary additional loading on the bridge Installation of all equipment used for blasting and repainting of the bridge, including but not limited to ducting, dehumidifier, heater for work during winter, and containment around the work zone Removal of all lead paint and corrosion from the girders and bearings of the bridge in accordance with AS4361.1 and TfNSW QA Specifications ATS5453 Repainting of Steel Bridges and ATS 5450, Ed 1 MOD TS0146:1.0 Protection of Steelwork by the use of paint coatings Repainting of all steel items previously blasted and cleaned by the contractor (all bearings and girders), to be completed with a current polyurethane paint system in accordance with table C2 No core drilling into the bridge concrete is permitted without specific written approval. Transport for NSW will consider other solutions proposed by the tenderer suitable for this bridge, taking into account the requirements above, the bridge location, geography, climate and flooding factors.
