Overview Pharmac is planning to issue a competitive process for the supply of iron (as ferric carboxymaltose) infusion for use in community and hospital settings. Iron infusion is indicated for the treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia. About The approximate gross annual expenditure on iron (as ferric carboxymaltose) infusion in the 2024/25 financial year was approximately $9.5 million. Purpose The proposed outcomes of this procurement are to make savings in the medicines budget and to potentially remove current funding criteria and open list iron (as ferric carboxymaltose) infusion without restriction. Pharmac would reserve the right to widen access, or not, subject to budget availability and bids received.
