Government procurement business survey 2026

Overview New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP) is running a survey for businesses to share their views on government procurement. NZGP would like to hear about businesses' experiences of procurement practices within New Zealand government, covering key stages of the procurement lifecycle including bidding for work, managing contracts, supplier relationships, and making complaints. Purpose This year, NZGP is particularly interested in hearing about businesses' experiences since the introduction of the 5th Edition Government Procurement Rules. This includes whether procurement processes are proportionate and easier to work with, how economic benefit requirements are being implemented in tenders, and suppliers' experiences of contract management. Feedback from the survey could help improve government procurement practices and make it easier to work with government. Each year government agencies spend approximately $51.5 billion on a wide range of goods and services from businesses. NZGP's aim is to ensure that government delivers value for all New Zealanders, and working effectively with businesses is crucial to achieving this goal. Eligibility Businesses that currently supply any government department, ministry, Crown entity, tertiary education institution, or local authority are invited to take part. How to Apply The survey is now open and closes on Monday 19 October 2026. It will take about 20 minutes to complete. Start Government Procurement Business Survey All responses are confidential and will be combined during analysis to produce a summary report. Individuals will not be identified. Respondents are encouraged to avoid using information that may identify themselves and/or others. Reminder emails encouraging completion of the survey may be received and may be forwarded on. After the survey closes, findings will be published, allowing comparisons by type of business and sector.
