Reducing the Incidence and Severity of Injuries in the Construction Sector

Overview ACC is seeking innovative, scalable, and evidence-based approaches to reduce the incidence and severity of injuries within the construction industry, as part of its Injury Prevention Strategy (2024-2033). About ACC's Injury Prevention Strategy (2024-2033) focuses on reducing the incidence, severity, and long-term cost of injuries in New Zealand by targeting investment toward areas where the greatest measurable impact can be achieved. This procurement aligns with Injury Prevention's new commissioning approach, which is evidence led, outcomes centred, and balances provider autonomy with accountability. Injury Prevention has set clear objectives and outcomes, identified through prescribed Intervention Logic Models and associated data sets, while allowing providers the flexibility to propose the initiatives and approaches they believe will best achieve them. Purpose Through this procurement, ACC seeks approaches that can reduce injury incidence and severity within the construction industry, improve worker health and safety outcomes, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the ACC Scheme. This approach invites suppliers to solve the challenge rather than respond to a predetermined approach. Objectives Proposed interventions should address one or all of the following objectives: Eye injuries, specifically increasing the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Work-related musculoskeletal injuries, specifically reducing worker exposure to hazardous working environments and improving the way work is planned, designed, resourced, supervised, and carried out Slips, trips and falls, specifically reducing worker exposure to hazardous working environments and improving the way work is planned, designed, resourced, supervised, and carried out Scope The scope includes: Development and delivery of initiatives that combine evidence-based approaches to reduce injury incidence and severity in the construction sector Effective engagement with construction businesses and workers Robust monitoring and evaluation of initiative outcomes Delivery of a clear pathway to measurable injury prevention outcomes Contractor Requirements Demonstrate how proposed interventions will achieve measurable outcomes Demonstrate how proposed interventions will effectively reach priority populations Demonstrate how proposed interventions will generate lasting behavioural and system-level change Enquiries Contact: Adam Ridley-Gibbons Email: Procurement@acc.co.nz
