Overview Burdekin Shire Council is proposing dune reprofiling works at Alva Beach (approximately 19.4°S, 147.4°E) to rehabilitate an existing dune blowout within the frontal dune system. About The dune has deteriorated due to both weather influences and four-wheel-drive vehicles driving in the dunes. This project represents the first step in the process of reestablishing the dune. Purpose A detailed volumetric survey has determined that approximately 132 m³ of sand is required to partially infill the blowout and restore the dune profile to a stable condition. Scope The scope includes: Reprofiling of the dune at Alva Beach to rehabilitate the existing dune blowout within the frontal dune system Placement of approximately 132 m³ of sand to partially infill the blowout and restore the dune profile to a stable condition Minimising disturbance to the beach profile, dune systems and native vegetation wherever possible Retaining natural materials such as driftwood, unless removal is necessary to facilitate safe access or address a safety risk Implementing measures as needed to prevent erosion or sediment movement during the works
