About this tender
Overview Hydro Tasmania is seeking a Request for Tender (RFT) for the supply and commissioning of the BESS Battery (DC accumulation system) and its associated systems, and the integration between the Battery and the Power Converter System (PCS), which is supplied by others. About King Island's hybrid energy system, run by Hydro Tasmania, combines 2.45 MW of wind, 470 kW of solar, a 3 MW/1.5 MWh BESS, and two D-UPS flywheels with smart controls to supply most of the island's power. This microgrid now delivers around 65% renewable energy, regularly achieves periods of 100% renewables, and cuts diesel use by over 2 million litres and 5,700 t of CO2 annually. A 1.5 MW solar farm added in 2023 further reduces emissions and strengthens the island as a model for remote clean energy systems. Purpose The existing BESS has reached the end of life and is being replaced with a contemporary solution with increased capacity. Scope The scope includes: Supply and commissioning of the BESS Battery (DC accumulation system) and its associated systems Integration between the Battery and the Power Converter System (PCS), which is supplied by others Provision of a containerised BESS solution meeting the minimum requirements set out in the King Island BESS Battery Tender Specification Delivery of a minimum total power and energy of 4.2 MWdc and 4.2 MWhdc at the output of the battery, split over two inverters (a minimum of 2.1 MWdc and 2.1 MWhdc per inverter) Integration between the energy storage system and the PCS, which will comprise two SMA MVPS-2930-S2-10 skids Contractor Requirements Suppliers may choose to supply 0.5C cells in place of 1.0C cells, provided the minimum power and energy requirements of the specification are met Instructions to Tenderers Bidders are to provide a quotation for a containerised BESS solution meeting the minimum requirements set out in the supplied King Island BESS Battery Tender Specification.
