Mount Buffalo Chalet 1st Floor Kitchen
Tender Overview
About this tender
Overview Parks Victoria is inviting quotes for building trades and construction services for the Mt Buffalo Chalet 1st floor kitchen refurbishment and maintenance works, as part of the reactivation of the chalet. About The Mount Buffalo Chalet is included on the Victorian Heritage Register (VHR) as H0901 and has a high degree of integrity to its 1937/38 period of construction. The site is of architectural, historical and social significance to the State of Victoria and contains a rich collection of furniture and objects. Any works to this registered place are subject to approvals under the Heritage Act 2017. The Mt Buffalo Chalet has been a premier accommodation offering since opening in 1910, seeing a number of changes and additions over time. After nearly 100 years of continuous operation, and following the 2006 bushfires, the Chalet was closed to guests. In recent years, plans to reactivate the chalet have led to a tenant occupying the building in late 2024. During 2024, a reactivation strategy was developed and endorsed, leading to a Master Plan being approved in early 2026. The Master Plan guides all reactivation works at the Chalet, whether delivered by Parks Victoria or the tenant, and these works are the focus of this project. Stages 2 and 3 of the Master Plan propose to accommodate up to 300 students and teachers, reuse the dining room, and create a commercial kitchen suitable for 'camp style' cooking to support the tenant's outdoor education programs. Purpose Parks Victoria is carrying out the works required to make the first-floor kitchen of the Mt Buffalo Chalet a compliant room shell, enabling kitchen installation (at the tenant's cost), including rangehoods, by 30 June 2027. Parks Victoria will also progressively undertake a range of maintenance works on the exterior of the Chalet building, such as recladding and painting timber weatherboards, to support the stage 2 and 3 works. This Request for Quote is to secure building trades and construction services to support these works under the direction of Parks Victoria for the remainder of the 2026/27 financial year. It is anticipated that more than one supplier will be engaged in the delivery of the works and that a Principal Contractor will not be appointed.
