COALAR Grant Round 2026-27

Overview The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (ACT) is administering the Council on Australia Latin America Relations (COALAR) Grant Program, an annual grant program offering funding to organisations and individuals to support projects or activities that advance Australia's engagement with Latin America, including exchanges, partnerships and other collaborations aligned with COALAR's strategic priority areas and goals. Applications will be prioritised for projects taking place in the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Panamá, Perú and Uruguay. The grant round will be conducted as a one-stage full application process. About COALAR's Strategic Priority Areas Culture and Entrepreneurship Education and Research Environment and Energy Transition First Nations Mining, Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS), and Resources COALAR's Strategic Goals Goal 1: Raise awareness of COALAR and Latin America-Australia relations Goal 2: Strengthen commercial ties Goal 3: Expand social and cultural connections Goal 4: Foster and promote gender equality and women's leadership Funding Total Amount Available: $300,000.00 Estimated Grant Value: $15,000.00 to $50,000.00 Grant Activity Timeframe: Maximum of 12 months Project Commencement Window: Grant projects must commence no earlier than 1 March 2027 and before 30 June 2027 Eligibility To be eligible, applicants must be one of the following: An Australian entity with an Australian Business Number (ABN), Australian Company Number (ACN) or Indigenous Corporation Number (ICN) An Australian consortium with a lead organisation An Australian registered charity or not-for-profit organisation An Australian local government body An Australian State or Territory government body A corporate Commonwealth entity An Australian statutory authority An Australian citizen or permanent resident A citizen or organisation from an eligible Latin American country A well-established organisation in an eligible Latin American country that advocates for Australian business, education and/or cultural interests Australian applicants must have a project delivery or support partner from at least one of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru or Uruguay. Applicants from these Latin American countries, including organisations that advocate for Australian interests, must have an Australian project delivery or support partner who will administer the grant in Australian dollars (AUD), regardless of where the project takes place. How to Apply Applicants must complete the online full application form on the SmartyGrants portal and submit this along with a series of mandatory documents in English via the SmartyGrants portal by 12:00 (midday) Australian Eastern Standard Time on 21 September 2026.
