SHB - Supply, Install and service of Blasting and Vacuuming Equipment at SHB

Overview Transport for NSW is inviting tenders for the supply, installation and servicing of blasting and vacuuming equipment at the Sydney Harbour Bridge (SHB). Scope This Contract is for the supply and installation of an abrasive blasting and vacuuming system to allow efficient abrasive blasting of existing lead-based paint from the steelwork of the main arch and laterals of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, using scaffolding systems to provide access to the required areas. The equipment must also provide environmental containment and collection of waste abrasive materials by vacuuming heavy garnet and creating a negative pressure environment for the collection of fine airborne dust particles from encapsulated blasting and painting areas. The equipment is to be installed on the main deck between lanes 7 and 8, next to the north and south pylons, to allow for blasting and extraction of the existing lead-based paint throughout the duration of the works. The scope generally includes, but is not limited to: Supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of the required equipment and supporting equipment (the specified requirements are minimum requirements for the machinery; the contractor may propose higher capacity machinery at their discretion) Supply of 2 x 40,000 CFM Dust Collectors (Diesel), installed on the bridge main deck between lanes 7 and 8, to collect lighter dust particles from containment areas by creating a negative pressure environment within the contained area and preventing dust escaping into the surrounding environment Comprehensive maintenance and breakdown service of the machinery to ensure trouble-free and safe operation Dust Collector Requirements 40,000 CFM, diesel powered Minimum 4 inlets to suit 500mm ducting Fitted with high pressure fans capable of maintaining airflow through long depths of ducting (approx. 500mm) Fitted with a filtration system suited to lead works as per Australian standards Designed for easy install, mobility and crane lifting Designed to allow distribution of the machine's load over a larger area, with a load dispersion system (load spreader) placed underneath the base of the equipment, of minimum size 3.2m (transverse to c/w) and 1.5m wide (longitudinally), achieved through 25mm thick steel plate or hardwood (F22 grade) in layers of 75mm thick hardwood Silenced/attenuated engine, fan and cartridge housings, fitted in a 20-foot container if practicable and able to fit in the area between lanes 7 and 8 Pulsing systems to prevent premature clogging of filters High fuel tank capacity for economical operation, as the machine will be operated for 12+ hours at a time and stored between lanes 7 and 8 of the harbour bridge, where access constraints make constant refuelling unviable Low levels of diesel exhaust and harmful fumes, with suitable exhaust filters and adequate height of the exhaust stack to clear traffic level height Sufficient capacity to create negative pressure during blasting work to remove dust from a containment area with dimensions of 30m (L), 4m (H) x 4m (W) or larger Contract Terms and Conditions The Contract period is 36 months for the regular schedule of service and maintenance Transport for NSW may, at its absolute discretion, extend the Contract for up to 60 months, subject to agreement with the contractor Tender Briefing and Site Inspection A mandatory pre-tender meeting (PTM) will be held on-site at the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Date: Thursday, 13 August 2026 Time: 10:00 am Location: Sydney Harbour Bridge Tenderers are required to provide a complete list of attendees at least one business day prior to the meeting. As the inspection will take place within an active work site, all attendees must comply with Transport for NSW site safety requirements, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the site and activities being undertaken. The following minimum PPE requirements apply to all TfNSW personnel, contractors, industry partners and visitors: Long-sleeved shirts and long trousers must be worn at all times High-visibility clothing or a high-visibility vest compliant with AS/NZS 4602.1:2011 must be worn Lace-up safety footwear with ankle support and protective steel or composite toe caps must be worn; site-specific footwear requirements for particular activities (for example, hot bitumen works) will take precedence where applicable Failure to comply with these safety requirements may result in attendees being refused access to the site. Following the pre-tender meeting, a mandatory site inspection will be held. Tenderers are requested to allow up to two hours for the PTM and site inspection, as it will involve visits to sites located on both the northern and southern sides of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
