Overview City of Darwin is seeking tenders from licensed electricity retailers for the supply of retail electricity to all City of Darwin-owned sites. Purpose Starting 1 July 2026, local governments in the Northern Territory are no longer covered under the same subsidised electricity pricing as residents and small businesses. City of Darwin is exploring a range of options to reduce the impacts of this substantial rise in electricity costs on its services to the community and avoid the need to increase fees and charges. This tender aims to ensure City of Darwin obtains the most competitive electricity pricing available. Objectives Obtain the most competitive electricity pricing available for City of Darwin Progress City of Darwin's Climate Emergency Strategy target of net zero Council-controlled emissions by 2030 Support grid decarbonisation and increase renewable energy options in the Northern Territory Scope The scope includes: Supply of retail electricity to all City of Darwin-owned sites, including administrative buildings, depots, pools, libraries, sports ovals, community centres, and a municipal waste facility Eligibility Tenderers must be licensed electricity retailers
