Overview Rio Tinto Limited is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the supply of international RO/RO charter vessels to support the logistics and supply chain requirements of the Kangwinan Project, covering the ocean transport of oversized, overweight and out-of-gauge project cargo for direct delivery to Weipa, QLD. About The Kangwinan Project is located in the vicinity of Norman Creek, Cape York Peninsula, approximately 60 km south of Weipa. A bauxite processing plant will be constructed on the southern side of Norman Creek and transported approximately 15 km south-east via overland conveyor to the existing Amrun stockyard. Key scoping items for the Project include a new 19Mtpa crushing and beneficiation plant, a camp expansion, a new overland conveyor, water supply, wharf and stockyard expansion, together with significant water infrastructure and earthworks scope. Scope The scope includes: Ocean transport of oversized, overweight and out-of-gauge project cargo from international points of origin for direct delivery to Weipa, QLD, using RO/RO vessels Provision of all management, supervision, labour, tools, consumables and operating supplies, materials, incidentals, specified equipment and furnishings required to perform the scope of works Contractor Requirements Compliance with all applicable Rio Tinto Standards, Australian/local regulations, statutory requirements, and Australian codes and standards as specified in the detailed scope of work provided to bid participants Expressions of interest are being sought from contractors who can complete the whole scope of works; expressions of interest may also be submitted for all or part of the scope of works described Local and Indigenous businesses are encouraged to participate Instructions to Tenderers Forecast Award Date: Q2, 2027 ICN EOI Commencement Date: 17 August 2026 ICN EOI Closing Date: 4 September Interest can be registered via Gateway by ICN: https://kangwinanproject.icn.org.au The scope of work described is indicative only and is intended as a summary description of work which may be required by Rio Tinto and may be subject to change.
