Contract for Roadside Spraying

Overview West Tamar Council is seeking a contractor to undertake roadside spraying for verge maintenance across the municipality. Scope The scope includes: Verge maintenance by means of broad application general control or spot spraying to ensure roadways and nearby areas remain safe, unobstructed, and visually tidy Maintenance of the vegetation control zone extending 1.5 metres from the edge of the carriageway, typically marked by guideposts or the property side of a footpath Spraying around traffic and street furniture within the vegetation control zone Herbicide spraying in drainage channels, using only herbicides specifically approved for that purpose Retention of spray records detailing quantity and type of herbicide sprayed, application system, location, weather conditions, and date of spraying Contractor Requirements All chemical vegetation control must be undertaken in accordance with relevant Acts, Regulations, Bylaws and Codes of Practice, including: The Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Act 1995 DPIPWE Code of Practice for Spraying in Public Places DPIPWE Code of Practice for Ground Spraying Only herbicides registered for use in Tasmania are permitted Spraying work must only be undertaken by a registered herbicide sprayer, with all employees holding a current certificate appropriate for their level of operation Herbicide spraying in drainage channels must only be undertaken using herbicides specifically approved for that purpose Herbicide spraying must not be undertaken in wet or windy conditions or on areas subject to erosion Herbicide spraying must not take place in the vicinity of mature blackberry bushes from March through to May Sensitive vegetation such as flowering plants and fruit bearing plants must be avoided Care must be taken when applying herbicides, and any damage to surrounding vegetation due to herbicide use will be remedied at the Contractor's expense Spray records must be retained, detailing quantity and type of herbicide sprayed, application system, location, weather conditions, and date of spraying The Contractor must not carry out spraying on any properties included in Council's official "No Spray" list, which forms part of Appendix 4 and may be updated over the course of the contract, with the Contractor required to follow the most current version
