Overview Alpine Shire Council is seeking strategic bushfire planning advice to inform the finalisation of the Alpine Shire Rural Directions Strategy (RDS). Purpose The purpose of this project is to provide Council with strategic bushfire planning advice to inform the finalisation of the Rural Directions Strategy in response to Amendment VC248 and to satisfy the requirements of the CFA. The intent of this project is to prepare an addendum to the existing Alpine Shire Bushfire Planning Study that will ensure the finalisation of the Rural Directions Strategy is strategically robust, aligns with current state bushfire planning policy, and provides a defensible basis for any future planning scheme amendment seeking to implement the RDS. Scope The scope includes: Advising whether the existing Bushfire Planning Assessment remains relevant and appropriate to support the finalisation of the RDS and future Council projects Reviewing the recommendations of the Draft RDS to ensure they adequately respond to contemporary bushfire planning policy amended via Amendment VC248 Identifying any amendments required to the Draft RDS and providing these as tracked comments or changes Reviewing the suggested planning mechanisms and making recommendations as appropriate to implement any revisions to the RDS Reviewing the proposed settlement boundaries for Freeburgh, Harrietville, Merriang South and Wandiligong, and providing advice about whether they are supportable having regard to Planning Practice Note 99: Establishing a settlement boundary Providing advice on the Rural Economic Cluster concept and whether identifying these areas in policy contradicts state bushfire planning policy Identifying any additional strategic bushfire planning considerations relevant to finalising the RDS Preparing a report that can become an addendum to the Bushfire Planning Assessment, confirming its ongoing relevance and identifying any updates required in response to Amendment VC248 Preparing a track change version of the RDS with commentary and suggested changes to wording
